The predecessor of Kunming Shipbuilding Company was the Sixth Machinery Industry Bureau of Yunnan Province, established in the late 1960s, rooted in the mountains of Yunnan. In 1997, it moved out of the deep mountains to the Kunming National Economic and Technological Development Zone, hailed as a model for the national "three-line" adjustment and relocation.

Kunming Shipbuilding Company is affiliated with China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, a Fortune Global 500 company, and is a backbone in China's defense technology industry and intelligent technology equipment field. Over the years, Kunming Shipbuilding Company has won 1 first prize, 4 second prizes, and 1 third prize for scientific and technological progress, 1 high-tech industrialization demonstration project, and 152 provincial and ministerial-level scientific and technological progress awards, with over 941 authorized patents.

Kunming Shipbuilding Company is one of the first batch of innovative enterprises in the country, one of the first batch of demonstration units for intellectual property rights in enterprises and institutions, a national industrial brand cultivation demonstration enterprise, and one of the first 23 intelligent manufacturing system solution providers in the country. Independent research and development of luggage handling systems breaks foreign monopoly.

The luggage handling system is one of the most important technical basic equipment for airport ground services, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of luggage to designated locations is essential for airport operational efficiency. However, prior to this, this technology had been monopolized by foreign integrators, leaving China's airport luggage handling systems in a passive situation with high construction costs, expensive upgrades, and high operational maintenance costs.

In response to this issue, in 2007, Kunming Shipbuilding Company built an airport luggage sorting test line. Within less than a year, the airport luggage sorting test line independently developed by Kunming Shipbuilding was put into trial operation. In 2009, the "Airport Luggage High-Speed Sorting System" developed by Kunming Shipbuilding was included in the "National Major Technical Equipment Independent Innovation Guidance Catalog" and successfully won the bid for the construction project of Kunming Changshui International Airport. In 2014, the Kunming Changshui International Airport construction project won the National Quality Engineering Gold Award, and Kunming Shipbuilding, as a participating unit in the luggage handling system, also received the award.

The first domestically produced large hub airport luggage handling system has been successfully developed, breaking the market pricing rules and service models monopolized by foreign integrators in the industry, freeing itself from the constraints of foreign products and technologies, and achieving the goal of domestic production of large complete sets of airport luggage automatic handling systems.

Following the Kunming Changshui Airport project, Kunming Shipbuilding successfully implemented luggage handling system projects at domestic airports such as Wuhan, Harbin, Hengyang, Guangzhou, and Lugu Lake, as well as overseas airports in Antigua and Barbuda, Nigeria, etc. The luggage handling equipment has been exported to more than 20 countries and regions including the UK, Poland, France, Russia, Mongolia, India, and Macau.

Smart parking makes life more convenient.

In 2017, at the inauguration ceremony of Kunming Smart Parking Construction and Operation Co., Ltd., Kunming Vice Mayor Wu Tao stated that there are currently about 902,500 parking spaces in the five districts of Kunming's main city, with a parking space gap of 332,500.

In response to the common situation of "difficult parking" caused by a large gap in parking spaces in large and medium-sized cities, tight urban land resources, fragmented parking space information, and low efficiency in parking lot operation management, the Kunming Shipbuilding Smart Parking System integrates parking robot technology, wireless communication technology, mobile terminal technology, global satellite positioning system technology, and geographic information system technology for the construction, collection, management, inquiry, reservation, and navigation services of urban parking spaces, representing the latest generation of parking systems.

During this interview, Jiang Rongqi, Secretary of the Party General Branch and Executive Director of Kunming Shipbuilding Intelligent Equipment Co., Ltd., said: "To effectively solve the urban parking difficulty problem, smart parking facilitates the identification of vehicle information, controls vehicle entry and exit, and also manages incoming and outgoing vehicles, assisting residents in quickly parking and finding their cars. Compared to traditional parking lots that provide 30% efficiency, a parking robot can manage 30 parking spaces." He also demonstrated the smart parking process on site.
